Acton Library's Fall Slate Kicks Off With Mystery Book Club, Teen Game Day

Acton Public Library rolled out its post-summer program calendar this week as students head back to class, with a monthly mystery discussion, a teen game day and a long-running charity origami project all on the schedule.

The library's Mystery Book Club meets Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Grady Room to discuss "In Dublin's Fair City" by Rhys Bowen, part of the group's regular fourth-Wednesday schedule. The same afternoon, Acton Compassion-Knits gathers from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Friends' Conference Room, where library staff lead volunteers knitting and crocheting items for charity donation.

Teens get a back-to-school Drop-In Games Day Thursday, Aug. 27, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., open to ages 12 to 18 for tabletop and video games. That same day, librarian Rebecca G. hosts Tech Time from 1 to 4 p.m., offering 20-minute one-on-one help sessions for residents with laptops, tablets or other devices. The library's weekly Peace Crane Folding group also continues Thursday at 1 p.m., working toward a shared goal of 1,000 origami cranes to be donated to a charity the group selects.

COMING UP

Early voting for the State Primary Election runs Wednesday, Aug. 26, and Thursday, Aug. 27. At the library, Sing & Stomp, a song-and-dance program for young children and caregivers, runs Friday, Aug. 28, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and Grab & Go Craft kits become available the same day in the Children's Room. Pokémon Club meets Saturday, Aug. 29, from 2 to 3 p.m. for trainers ages six to 11, though registration has closed. Meet-up Mondays, an open game and puzzle session, runs Monday, Aug. 31, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Note: the Tuesday, Sept. 1, Storytime session has been canceled.
