Acton Opens Early Voting for State Primary Amid Mail Ballot Flux

Early voting for the Massachusetts state primary opens in Acton Thursday, arriving the same week a Supreme Court ruling has thrown state mail-ballot rules into flux and as the town's Department of Public Works begins a fresh round of street paving.

The town's Department of Public Works will begin a new round of street paving starting Thursday, Aug. 27, according to a News Flash notice posted to the town website Wednesday afternoon. The notice does not detail which streets are affected; residents should watch for posted signage and expect possible temporary parking or access restrictions in work areas.
Separately, the town's public calendar shows early voting for the Massachusetts state primary opening Thursday, Aug. 27, at Acton polling locations. The same day, the Design Review Board, the Acton Libraries Joint Board of Trustees and the Water Resources Advisory Committee are all scheduled to meet.

The Acton Public Library's Shoreline Civil War Roundtable meets Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m., with Frank Niederwerfer presenting "14th Connecticut: The Final Chapter, Stony Mountain to Appomattox." The group meets the first Tuesday of each month.
The library's Wednesday Book Discussion Group returns Sept. 2 from 10:30 a.m. to noon to discuss "When I Was Puerto Rican," a memoir by Esmeralda Santiago.
