Acton Rates Its West Nile Risk Low as Neighboring Towns Climb to Moderate

ACTON — Acton's West Nile virus risk stands at low even as several neighboring communities have climbed to moderate, town health officials said in a News Flash posted Wednesday afternoon. The town also gave notice Wednesday of townwide paving work planned for later this month.

TOWN HALL Acton's risk level for West Nile virus remains classified as low, the town said, even as several surrounding communities have moved into moderate risk territory. The town is urging residents to take precautions against mosquito and tick-borne illness as the region moves through the height of summer.

Public Works also posted a paving notice for the week of August 24, giving residents advance word of work on town roads that week.

COMMUNITY & ARTS Traditional Madhubani folk painter Sunanda Sahay returns to Acton on August 18 for a Community Painting Workshop, continuing a mural that the town's Sustainability Office says is meant to reflect Acton's environmental commitments. The same day, the Sustainability Office and Conservation Division are running the Red House Bioblitz, a citizen science scavenger hunt with popsicles provided for participants.

Friday evening brings the next installment of the NARA Summer Concert Series, featuring the band Best Friends Girl alongside the America's Favorite Cars Experience.

COMING UP The Acton Memorial Library has Grab & Go craft kits available all day Friday, August 14, along with its Sing & Stomp music program at 10:30 a.m. The library's Meet-up Mondays game afternoon returns August 17 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., followed by Storytime on August 18 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
