School Committee · Meeting of September 3, 2026
ACTON — The Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee adopted a Protect Act compliance policy despite one member's protest abstention. Superintendent Peter told the committee the policy, formally called "Interacting with Law Enforcement Officers Engaged in Civil Law Enforcement," stemmed from a state requirement issued over the summer, and said the district's attorney had confirmed directly with the state Secretary of Education that the tight timeline still had to be met. Committee member Adam said he supported the policy's substance but abstained "as a matter of protest," arguing the state was "forcing policy down our throats" without time to deliberate.
Committee member Lisa moved the policy; Ben seconded; it passed with Adam's lone abstention. The committee also unanimously approved its 2026-2027 district and superintendent goals and a consent agenda covering August 20 minutes, a budget transfer and September 3 warrants.
