Finance Committee · Meeting of January 13, 2026

ACTON — The Acton Finance Committee reviewed two competing Acton-Boxborough school reorganization plans ahead of a January 22 School Committee vote. Member Greg told colleagues both options, called Option 4 and Option 5v2, would save an identical $1.87 million and cut 23 full-time positions, with the Conant building becoming surplus either way. Member Christy said "it's really 100% clear to me that 5v2 is the financially feasible way going forward" because it preserves flexibility to adjust class sizes.

Member Steve said he favored moving fast once a decision is made: "oh, no, just rip the Band-Aid off all at once." The panel also asked David, the Select Board's liaison to the School Committee, to detail the financial risk of losing a $1 million electrification grant after Town Meeting rejected the related HVAC project by one vote, short of the two-thirds threshold.
