Acton Finance Committee interns found a $23 million DPW building plan could be replaced for $11.1 million less.
Finance Committee · Meeting of August 11, 2026
Acton Finance Committee interns found a $23 million DPW building plan could be replaced for $11.1 million less. The committee, meeting without its chair or vice chair, heard five intern presentations: one calculated a 30-year cost of $16.3 million for an alternative DPW site at 5 Granite Road versus $27.4 million for the town's current proposal. Another found Acton's roughly 2,300 acres of vacant town land could generate an estimated $4.59 million over 10 years, mostly through solar leasing.
A third found Great Road sewer expansion could cost $80.8 million to $109.3 million. Members approved minutes from May 26 and June 23, 7-0, and member Greg disclosed a personal letter to the editor on fire truck costs that have risen from "$1 million to $2.5 million," which could prompt a joint letter with the Select Board. The committee adjourned 6-0.
