Finance Committee · Meeting of June 23, 2026

Acton's Finance Committee pressed budget staff over enterprise funds holding nearly a year's operating budget in reserve. Budget Director Ellie Anderson's third-quarter report showed local receipts at $6.583 million against a $6.5 million target, while septage, transfer station and sewer enterprise funds carried reserves far above the committee's informal 3 to 5 percent benchmark. Committee Chair Roland called it "90% of an entire annual budget sitting in someone's dark puddle" and said staff would get "one more bite at the apple" before the committee considers a formal cap.

Members also said the Stormwater Inspections fund's $192,000 revenue budget appears off by roughly $60,000 beyond a $100,000 study. Separately, member Greg Jarbo previewed a fiscal 2028 "point of view" built around a possible Proposition 2½ override tied to a DPW building project expected on the April 2027 ballot.
